MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641074975 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on June 17, 2026, for “an Integrated Disaster Literacy And Emergency Action Advisor System For Providing Retrieval-Grounded Disaster Guidance To Rural Users”.

Inventors include Dr. Tapan Kumar Das; and Mainak Deb.

The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a computer-implemented system and method for providing disaster literacy and emergency action guidance using retrieval-grounded artificial intelligence. The system includes a web-based user interface that receives natural-language disaster-related queries and a selected interaction mode from rural users. Disaster-management source documents are processed to extract textual content, which is segmented into overlapping text chunks and converted into dense vector embeddings using a sentence-transformer model. The embeddings and associated metadata are stored in a vector database to enable semantic similarity retrieval. Upon receiving a user query, the system retrieves relevant text chunks and incorporates them into a mode-specific prompt template. A large language model generates a response grounded in the retrieved content, and the output is structured according to the selected mode, including advisory guidance, educational explanations, or interactive disaster-scenario simulations. By constraining language-model responses with verified disaster-management information, the invention provides reliable, context-aware disaster preparedness and emergency guidance for users with limited access to formal disaster-education resources.
