MUMBAI, India, June 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631069882 A) filed by Asansol Engineering College on June 04, 2026, for “an Artificial Intelligence Driven Deep Learning Framework For Automated Detection And Classification Of Retinal Diseases Using Medical Image Processing”.

Inventors include Kaushik Neogi; Sumanta Karmakar; and Dr. Apurba Chatterjee.

The application for the patent was published on June 19, 2026, under issue no. 25/2026.

Abstract: Abstract An artificial intelligence driven deep learning framework is disclosed for the fully automated detection, multi-class classification, and severity analysis of retinal diseases using advanced medical image processing techniques. The framework comprises an image acquisition module that ingests digital eye scans from fundus cameras or optical coherence tomography devices. The acquired scans are processed by an image preprocessing unit that applies noise suppression, illumination correction, contrast enhancement, and blood vessel segmentation algorithms to optimize diagnostic visibility. A hybrid feature extraction engine and a deep learning classification module utilizing convolutional neural networks, transfer learning, and spatial attention mechanisms cooperate to automatically diagnose and grade specific ocular conditions, including diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. The framework generates automated diagnostic reports with calibrated confidence scores and includes cloud-based telemedicine integration to facilitate scalable, high-throughput, and remote ophthalmic screening.
