Abstract: The present invention relates to an edge-based crowd monitoring and risk prediction system for real-time detection of high-density crowd conditions and prevention of stampede events. The system comprises an image acquisition unit for capturing continuous video data, and an edge processing unit configured to process the video in real time. A computer vision module detects and counts human subjects using bounding box representations, while an analytics module derives crowd parameters including density, movement characteristics, and spatial overlap. A crowd risk computation module generates a crowd compression index based on these parameters, which is further evaluated by a machine learning-based classification module to categorize crowd conditions into predefined risk levels. The system includes a communication interface for transmitting processed data to a backend server and an alert actuation module for issuing warnings upon detection of high-risk conditions. Operating on edge devices, the invention enables low- latency processing, real-time risk prediction, and automated safety alerts for effective crowd management. Fig 1 to 6
