MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641125262 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on October 21, 2026, for “a Vehicular Telematics System For Bandwidth-Efficient Transmission Of Behavioural Telemetry”.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a bandwidth-efficient vehicular telematics architecture employing edge computation at a vehicle-mounted processing node. The system comprises a first processing node configured as a remote-control and telemetry gateway, and a second processing node mounted on a vehicle and coupled to inertial and optical sensors. The second processing node acquires sensor data, performs threshold-based detection of vehicular behavioural events within predetermined time epochs, computes a plurality of behavioural indices locally, and forms a compact fixed-size telemetry record comprising the computed indices and associated event information. The compact telemetry record is transmitted to the first processing node through a wireless communication link instead of continuously transmitting the underlying raw sensor stream. The first processing node may further relay the reduced telemetry data to a remote computing system for subsequent analysis. The architecture thereby reduces wireless transmission load while retaining behaviour-related information for downstream vehicular analytics and other applications. Fig 1 to 5.
