Abstract: ABSTRACT A TRANSITION METAL COMPLEX TO FORM CARBENDAZIM, MEBENDAZOLE AND RELATED BIOACTIVE COMPOUNDS AND METHODS OF PREPARATION THEREOF The present invention relates to a transition metal complex comprising pyridine-tethered 1, 2-diaminocycloalkane ligand of cobalt and particularly to the compounds of formulation [N1,N1-(CH2Ph)2-N2-(pyridin-2-CH2)-cyclohexane-1,2-diamine]CoX2 [where X = Cl (2), Br (3)] which catalyse the organic reaction, namely, an aerobic oxidative coupling of isonitriles with o-phenylenediamines yielding N-(alkyl)-2-aminobenzimidazole derivatives, which upon dealkylation and followed by an acylation reaction conveniently get converted to a fungicide drug, Carbendazim, an antiparasitic drug, Mebendazole and related bioactive compounds.
