Abstract: A betalain-enriched herbal topical gel composition and a method for preparing the same are disclosed, wherein a bioactive extract obtained from the peel of Hylocereus undatus (dragon fruit) is incorporated into a pharmaceutically acceptable gel base to produce a stable topical formulation. The dragon fruit peel, an agro-industrial by- product, serves as a renewable source of betalains and other bioactive phytoconstituents possessing antioxidant, antimicrobial, cytoprotective, and skin-protective properties. The formulated gel exhibits desirable physicochemical characteristics including suitable pH, viscosity, homogeneity, spreadability, and storage stability for topical application. The invention provides a sustainable approach for converting fruit-processing waste into a value-added herbal cosmetic product while reducing dependence on synthetic functional ingredients. The disclosed composition is suitable for cosmetic, pharmaceutical, herbal, and dermatological applications requiring natural bioactive formulations for skin protection and maintenance.
