Abstract: ABSTRACT “A METHOD AND TOOL FOR CHEVRON NOTCH CUTTING” The present invention relates to a tool and method for efficiently fabricating chevron notches in fracture toughness test specimens, including compact tensile (CT) and three-point bend samples. Unlike conventional multi-step wire-cut EDM methods, which are time-consuming and complex, this tool enables single-stroke notch fabrication with high precision and repeatability. The tool is fabricated using a copper strip and features a V-shaped cutting edge formed through machining, grinding, EDM splitting, and brazing. When integrated with a spark erosion EDM system, it functions as a die, eroding material to replicate the Chevron notch profile in one operation. This approach eliminates the need for multiple machining steps, significantly reducing processing time while ensuring dimensional accuracy. The tool enhances the efficiency, reliability, and reproducibility of fracture toughness testing, providing a cost-effective and high-precision solution for materials testing laboratories, research institutions, and industrial applications.
