MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641074969 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on June 17, 2026, for “a Low-Power Embedded Driver Fatigue Detection And Prevention System”.

Inventors include Dr Indrasen Singh; and Gopu J Sekhar.

The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a low-power embedded driver fatigue detection and prevention system for real-time in-vehicle deployment. The system utilizes a camera to capture live facial images of a driver and a processing unit to extract facial landmarks using a 68-point landmark model. Geometric parameters including Eye Aspect Ratio (EAR) and Mouth Aspect Ratio (MAR) are computed to detect prolonged eye closure, abnormal blinking, yawning, and head movement using a rule- based threshold mechanism without deep learning models or GPU acceleration. Upon detection of a drowsiness condition, an ESP32 microcontroller transmits alert notifications through GSM, Wi-Fi, or MQTT communication, along with real-time GPS location data. The system operates on low-voltage DC power and provides a distributed, energy-efficient solution for driver fatigue detection and remote alert generation.
