Abstract: ABSTRACT “A FLASHBACK PREVENTION SYSTEM FOR BURNERS AND A PROCESS FOR OPERATION THEREOF” The present invention discloses a flashback prevention system for burners and a process for operation thereof. The system comprises a burner integrated with a ceramic dielectric layer embedding a micro-gap electrode matrix forming a smart skin structure. Nanosecond pulsed discharges generate localized non-thermal plasma within a near-wall boundary-layer region of approximately 1–2 mm. The ionized species are accelerated by an applied electric field to produce an electrohydrodynamic force, resulting in a localized ionic wind. This ionic wind increases the effective near-wall flow velocity beyond the flame propagation speed, thereby preventing upstream flame flashback. The system operates with low energy consumption and is suitable for high-pressure combustion environments. The invention provides an efficient and scalable solution for stabilizing hydrogen and oxyfuel combustion systems without altering bulk flow characteristics.
