MUMBAI, India, Aug. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411010140 A) filed by Teerthanker Mahaveer University, Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, on Feb. 14, 2024, for 'reading assistive device for visually impaired.'
Inventor(s) include Rohaila Naaz; and Dr. Ashish Chander.
The application for the patent was published on Aug. 22, under issue no. 34/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A reading assistive device for visually impaired, characterizes a finger-mounted body 1 with a slot 2 and equipped with motorized omnidirectional wheels 3 connected by rods, enabling movement of body 1 on the pages of a book, a curved plate 4 on the body 1 supports the user's finger while traversing the lines, with plate 4 incorporates a touch sensor to detect finger placement, activating motorized clips 5 that secure the user's finger, an imaging unit 6 on the body 1 determines the position of printed lines, allowing the wheels 3 to move the body 1 along the lines, an OCR module paired with imaging unit 6 detects printed text, while a braille module 7 generates corresponding braille patterns to aid in reading."
